PHILOSOPHY

HEALTH AND SAFETY

The manpower of G.I. Makris Ikodomiki is its most valuable resource. To ensure a safe workspace for our employees, the company has evolved a strong safety culture, driven by the goal to achieve “zero accidents” and a “nobody gets hurt” philosophy.

 

In order to achieve this the company follows the steps below:

 

  • The management is committed to adhere a health and safety culture throughout the company and is also involved in day-to-day health and safety issues
  • We provide intensive and systematic training on Health and Safety issues
  • We have also achieved to have employee involvement in Health and Safety
  • The safety culture has been instilled in G.I. Makris Ikodomiki employees with the conviction that “every accident is preventable”

COMMUNICATION

 

Improving communication amongst all members of the company is also of very high importance.

 

In order to achieve this:

 

  • we talk to our workers, involve them in the risk assessment process and explain to them what we are doing in order to reduce risk
  • we translate many important messages and tasks in their mother language in order to be 100% sure that they understand what we are trying to communicate; and
  • we try to earn their trust by:
    • making sure that they understand our commitment to the H&S procedures
    • correcting them systematically if they perform steps incorrectly in the process of their work
    • following the safety steps perfectly, every single time; and
    • following up afterwards

INCIDENT REPORTING

 

It is also of utmost importance to us to continuously find ways to increase and improve incident reporting by:

 

  • providing employees with ongoing feedback on the status of investigations and/or corrections resulting from incident reports they filed
  • allowing employees to file incident reports, without signing them
  • designing a simplified, anonymous check-box form for reporting incidents
  • encouraging employees to report incidents and safety issues during safety walk-rounds; and
  • building trust by ensuring that by reporting incidents:
    • will result in positive changes in safety systems and/or work conditions
    • will not lead to a blame game and fault-finding

SUB-CONTRACTORS & PARTNERS

 

We consider our sub-contractors as our partners and we continuously ensure that they comply with all health and safety standards applied to our operations.
